This historic obelisk is located in the Duże Planty Park in Mikołów [Nikolai], in a part called Wymyślanka. Carved into the historic stone is an inscription in German: Charlotten thal gegr. 1796 ("Charlotte's Valley established 1796"), the abbreviation V.V.N. (Society for the Beautification of Mikołów), and two dates – 1865 (the founding of the Society) and 1895 (the creation of the Promenade, established thanks to the efforts of said institution). The boulder is carefully restored today and serves as a tourist attraction of the Mikołów Planty. The monument commemorates the park area, originally named Charlottenthal in honor of Charlotte, the wife of Captain Janusz Korwin-Wierzbicki. The park was created in the 18th century, and the land was given to Charlotte as a dowry by her father, Colonel Krahn. Captain Korwin-Wierzbicki began organizing competitions, events, and hunts in this area, and he also imported flowers, such as rhododendrons. The name Wymyślanka supposedly comes from his inventive nature. In the 19th century, a promenade leading to the park was built, and the stone was placed at its end. It constitutes a memento of the former owners and reminds us of the historical character of the Silesian region when the German language was in use. The obelisk is a symbol of Mikołów's municipal history, and the Duże Planty Park, where it is located, has been entered into the registry of monuments.
