The monument, called the hunter or archer, is inextricably linked to the origin of the city's name - Strzelce Opolskie. It is not only the genealogy of the name, but also an allusion to Piast roots in archery history.
The Monument of the Hunter in Strzelce Opolskie stands in front of the city hall, was unveiled in 1929 at the fountain at the site of an old well. The figure of the hunter was cast at the Royal Foundry in Gliwice. It alludes to medieval hunters-royal bowmen, from which, according to tradition, the name of the city is derived.
The monument serves not only a historical function, but also a tourist one, being an important point on the market square. In recent years, it underwent major conservation - the sculpture was cleaned, old paint was removed, the fountain base was strengthened and the stone was impregnated. Illumination was also planned to make the figure more visible at night.
The Monument of the Hunter as an element of small urban architecture is a permanent element of Strzelce Opolskie's identity, combining history with the contemporary character of the city. It is a symbol of tradition, local history and the pride of residents.
