This legendary shrine is one of the most interesting places related to local Christian tradition in the Opole region. According to accounts, it commemorates the visit of St. Adalbert [Święty Wojciech] to Jemielnica [Himmelwitz]. The shrine is located in the garden of the former Cistercian monastery complex. Tradition holds that St. Adalbert visited these lands in the 10th century to convert the local pagans. The legend says that he removed a statue of the pagan god Tyrrus and baptized the local inhabitants. In the 18th century, relics of an ancient cult were discovered at the site where these events allegedly took place, which became the impulse to erect a shrine dedicated to the holy missionary. The object, described as a pillar shrine, remains one of the oldest elements of small sacral architecture in Jemielnica. Although exact data on the date of construction and the author have not been preserved, this place remains a symbol of the intermingling of pagan and Christian traditions. St. Adalbert's Shrine continues to attract pilgrims and tourists to this day.
