Mikołów [Nikolai] is a place that will delight architecture enthusiasts – strolling through its streets, located just a dozen or so kilometers from Katowice, one can admire beautiful tenement houses and a wealth of Art Nouveau details. The tenement house located at the corner of Jana Pawła II Street and Stefana Okrzei Street in Mikołów is one of the most valuable examples of urban architecture from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Erected around 1910, it constitutes a representative example of Art Nouveau (Secession), combining residential and commercial functions. The building is situated in the city center, in the immediate vicinity of the Mikołów market square. The light brick façade is adorned with rich floral ornamentation, bay windows with balconies, and carved heads of satyrs (men with goat legs and ears). The characteristic corner of the building is crowned with a domed turret. The whole is distinguished by elegance and moderate decorativeness, typical of the Silesian variety of Art Nouveau. The tenement house has been entered into the registry of monuments and remains an important element of the city's historical development. Despite renovations, it has retained its original character and is a significant point on the Mikołów monuments trail.
