Fort Rondel, also called Fort Frederick William or Montalembert Bastion, is a historic defensive structure in Kędzierzyna-Koźle, erected between 1805 and 1829 as one of the last and most distant parts of the Fortress Cosel (Koźle). Designed by French engineer Marc René de Montalembert, it has a circular shape (rondel) with a diameter of 33.9 meters with 28 firing slits. In the center were staircases and shelter rooms. The fort served to protect the fortress's forward field, including along the Klodnica River and the Klodnica Canal. After the liquidation of Fortress Cosel in the early 20th century, the fort was partially converted into a brewery, and in 1945 it suffered a fire. Montalembert Bastion is currently falling into ruin and is not in use, but it is listed in the register of monuments and is part of the tourist route "Following the Path of Fortress Cosel". The fort is an important testimony to the region's history of military fortifications and defensive architecture.
