The historic water tower is one of the architectural symbols of Gliwice and one of several historic water towers in the city. The building with its unique history has been listed in the register of monuments.
The tower is located on Sobieskiego Street, opposite Gliwice's Cemetery of Soviet Soldiers. It was built between 1905 and 1908 as the realization of architect Wilhelm Adalbert Otto Kranz and to this day remains one of the most recognizable industrial monuments of the city. Built in Neo-Gothic brick style, the structure is nearly 50 meters high. It has a cylinder shape with a diameter of 26 meters, which contained as much as 3,000 tons of water. The object is distinguished by architectural details characteristic of Neo-Gothicism. Inside, it once housed a steel "Intze" type tank, serving as a water reservoir for the city. The tower was operational until the 1980s, then it was sold. For years, there were plans to adapt the tower into a cultural center or gallery, but the project was not implemented. Despite the passage of time, the tower still serves as an important orientation point and symbol of Gliwice's industrial heritage.
