At the beginning of the twentieth century, in the place of an earlier Baroque church of St. Lawrence, a new temple was built, adapted to the needs of a growing parish. The history of the first church in Strzelce dates back to the thirteenth century. The temple initially fell under the jurisdiction of the archpriest in Opole and was located within the city walls. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the then parish priest Maksymilian Ganczarski initiated the construction of a new Neo-Baroque church. Construction began in 1904 and the temple was consecrated in 1907. The new structure replaced the modest old temple, from which a nearby standing tower was preserved. The church preserved part of the furnishings from the old temple, including a Baroque main altar created by Jan Krzysztof Königer of Wrocław, side altars, an eighteenth-century pulpit, and paintings. The walls are adorned with polychromy and decorations by Klink of Babice near Głubczyce, who also decorated the temple in Zubrzyce and executed the decoration of one of the Calvary chapels on St. Anna's Mountain. The temple captivates with a harmonious combination of Baroque details with Neo-Baroque architecture. Its slender tower, visible next to the town hall and castle, became a symbol of the city.
