The temple in Centawa [Haldenau] is one of the oldest and most valuable sacral monuments in the Jemielnica commune. The first mentions of the parish date back to 1253, although the current temple was erected in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Gothic, single-nave structure was built from split blocks of Triassic limestone. Of particular value is the unique Renaissance coffered ceiling inside from 1586, adorned with rich floral decoration – an inscription states that it was funded by the noblewoman Magdalena Centawska. In 1872, the church was closed due to the threat of collapse, and a general renovation was only carried out between 1886 and 1888. In the main nave, the altar features a painting depicting the scene of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, flanked by figures of St. Hedwig and St. Urban. The original altars have not survived – new ones were built around 1950, with paintings by the artist Łukasz Mrzygłód. The church also houses a 19th-century Way of the Cross. Beneath the temple lies a burial crypt where, historians presume, the church's foundress and other local dignitaries rest. The church still serves as a parish, constituting the spiritual and historical center of Centawa.
