In the Katowice district of Podlesie [Podlesie], there is a square dedicated to Bolesław Holecki – a teacher and social activist. Bolesław Holecki was an advocate and popularizer of chess. He founded chess clubs in Podlesie, Kostuchna, and Piotrowice. He was active in the Silesian Chess Association. He organized chess competitions, including the Primary School Chess League in Katowice and the Emil Olej Chess Memorial. In 1961, he founded the UKS 21 Podlesie chess club. One of his pupils was the chess master Jan Przewoźnik. The square is located at the intersection of Saska, Chabrowa, and Dąbrowa streets, on the former Salt Tract (Salz Weg), as indicated by a model located there. Salt from Wieliczka was delivered along this route through Kraków, Dziećkowice, Imielin, Podlesie, and further south and west. It connected historical objects in Podlesie, among which the Saxon chapel, the tollgate (Maut), the mill, and the stone bridge on the Mleczna River are worth mentioning. Only the last of these has survived.
