The Monument to Victims of Hitlerism in Leszczyny [Leschczin] (a district of Czerwionka-Leszczyny) is an important site of local memory, commemorating the tragic events of World War II. It is located near the Leszczyny railway station. In January 1945, the so-called "Death March" of prisoners from the KL Auschwitz-Birkenau camp passed through Leszczyny. Near the Rzędówka railway station (a former settlement colony on the border of Rybnik and Leszczyny), 350 Auschwitz prisoners were murdered. The monument was unveiled on May 8, 1966, on a heaped mound, and the site became a symbol of the martyrdom of the victims of Hitlerism and a reminder of the dramatic events of the past. In 2013, the site was tidied up: the figure was renovated, the granite slab was replaced, and the area was cleaned. The monument serves an educational and commemorative function – anniversary ceremonies are held here every year in January. It is one of the key sites of local memory, reminding us of the suffering of the victims of Nazism and the importance of preserving history for future generations.
